What is it to be a New Zealander

In these three weeks that I spend in New Zealand I learnt and live like a "kiwi" and it was much different than live like a chilean.

The "kiwis" are freindly, charismatic and peaceful , it is very rare get robbed or assault in New Zealand because it is a developed and a peaceful country so it make it a difficult place to do robberies or assaults.

Being a "kiwi" in New Zealand you have a lot of opportunities to don't be a poor guy, and the ones that are poor are because they are lazy. The private and public education in New Zealand have the same quality and in some cases the public it's better, also if you are a university student or a person without job the government pays you weekly 150 to 300 NZ dollars.

Being a a "kiwi" is more than live in New Zealand, is to be a person that is very proud of his country and their success, is to be part of a country were a lot of people can have many opportunities and even become world famous in many ways, also is to be in a country that is part of the commonwealth were the Queen is thei sovereign.

Piece of new

Red tape Holds up new bridge
"The new bridge in Chiloe is waiting for its inauguration"

The dream of the president Sebastian Piñera finally come true, the new bridge of Chiloe to Puerto Montt is ready for being used. However, the government needs to solve some legal issues before the inauguration begins.

The 90% of Chileans thinks that the bridge is useless, but in fact the 70% of the inhabitants of Puerto Montt work in Chiloe making it an important place. In addition, with the bridge, there will not be need for people to cross the island in boats transforming it more economic and accessible.

The Spanish architect Cristian Turrieta designed this bridge, he got inspired by the Rio de Janeiro bridge which is ten kilometres long and has a similar structure.

In the engineering side, they have some technical issues, like how to put the pillars in the water for support the building, however , this trouble get solved by using boats and specialised machinery.

The date of the inauguration it's going to be in the third of July of this year, therefore, the people from Chiloe and Puerto Montt are so excited of this moment that they prepare a cultural event of the history of Chiloe and his myths, like the Trauco, making it a important moment for the people in the south.

Interactive Oral Presentation

Caption: Old cartoons were not as violent as nowadays's cartoons.

What have I learnt in class: There are a higher levels of physical agression in childrens programmes ,also that the children usually tended to copy the negative behaviour they see on the television.

 Supportive information for internet(1):

(...)"assessing the mode of violent acts portrayed in Looney Tunes slapstick cartoons, the researchers found that in 1930s ,out of 317 violent acts ,312 or 98.42%  portrayed physical violence and five or 1.58% portrayed psychological violence. Next, in 1940s 500 or 93.11% out of 537 violent acts were physical violence,nine or 1.67% were verbal  violence,ten or 1.86%    were lethal violence and 18 or 3.55% were psychological violence."(...)

Supportive information for internet(2):

(...)" Kids who watch cartoons like  "Scooby Doo" are more likely to experience sleep disturbance than kids who watch "Curious George."(...)

(...)" Why the difference? Per the researchers, the difference relates to the amount of violence in the one set of shows versus the other. Old Scooby is actually quite violent, Curious George not so much. In “Bugs Bunny,” the characters are always slapping each other around. In “Dora the Explorer,” barely ever".(...)

Opinion: I think that old cartoons have the same violent level as nowadays(both have violent contents).

Important Ideas:

1)The principal reason that affects children be violent are the television programmes.

2)The violence in old cartoons is the same that the new cartoons, but in the new cartoons is more easy identify the violence than the old cartoons.

3)The most famous cartoon shows are violent or are a bad influence (The Simpsons , Looney Toones , Dragon Ball, etc).

Opinion Piece (Tattoos)

                                                      Ethnicity and Tattoos

          In my view the people who has tattoos doesn't need to be judged if his tattoo is a reference of his culture, way of thinking or art expressions.

          First if the boss or the superior doesn't want to hire a guy for his tattoo and that tattoo is part of their religion or culture ,will be a descrimination and a lack of respect for their culture , nevertheless this can be punished for the law and they will get in a big problem.

          A example of the idea who was mention before are rhe maori culture, that they tattoo their face and body for tell about a message of their knowledge, standing in their social life and the family genealogy, moreover they still doing this tattos for represent the ideas mention before and for the respect of their history.

          In addition , the tattoos at the old times , it mean that the guy was in jail or were a criminal , or even both , and the people from today keep that thinking in mind when now is just a way to express your beliefs , culture or/and for show your art.

          In conclussion a person does not have to be judged by a tattoo , because will probably mean something important for he or their culture , they need be judged by their personality.
